Sexual Communication Comfort Assessment
Being able to talk about sex matters even when the relationship itself feels strong. People can feel comfortable with affection or sexual activity while still struggling to discuss condoms, pain, pleasure, rejection or what they actually want. The Sexual Communication Comfort Assessment helps you identify which conversations feel easier and which ones may need more deliberate practice.
Sexual Communication Comfort Assessment
Rate how comfortable you feel discussing each topic. Results highlight where a conversation script or slower approach may help.
Your Conversation Priorities
What topics does the assessment cover?
- Asking what a partner likes
- Saying what you enjoy
- Saying No or asking to stop
- Condoms and contraception
- STI testing
- Pain or discomfort
- Pleasure and orgasm
- Fantasies
- Differences in sexual frequency
- Handling rejection kindly
- Checking in afterwards
How to use the assessment
- Rate your comfort with each conversation topic from very uncomfortable to very comfortable.
- Answer based on how you actually feel, not how confident you think you should be.
- Complete every topic before reviewing the result.
- Select Review My Communication Areas.
- Focus first on the least comfortable topics that are most relevant to your current relationship or sexual situation.
Why communication comfort matters
Avoiding a topic can create assumptions. Someone who finds it difficult to discuss pain may continue an activity longer than they want. Someone who is uncomfortable talking about rejection may take “not tonight” personally. Someone who avoids STI conversations may rely on incomplete assumptions about testing or protection.
The goal is not to become comfortable discussing every topic immediately. Start with language that feels manageable. You might say, “I find this awkward to talk about, but I want us to be able to discuss it,” before moving into the actual subject.
How to use your result
Choose one or two lower-comfort areas and practise discussing them outside an intimate moment. Calm timing can make difficult topics easier. You can also use the Consent Conversation Builder or STI Conversation Planner for more specific conversation starters.
This assessment is not a personality test. Communication comfort can improve with trust, practice, experience and a partner who responds respectfully.

Use the result to notice where silence or discomfort may be creating avoidable uncertainty. Clearer sexual communication should make it easier to express both desire and boundaries.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Sexual Communication Comfort Assessment measure?
It asks how comfortable you feel discussing common sexual and relationship topics and highlights the areas that feel hardest.
Does a low score mean I am bad at communication?
No. It shows which topics currently feel difficult. Comfort can improve with practice and a respectful environment.
Should I discuss difficult topics during sex?
Some check-ins belong in the moment, but larger conversations about protection, boundaries or expectations are often easier before intimacy begins.
What if I cannot comfortably say No?
Treat that as an important issue. Sexual activity should allow you to pause or stop without fear, punishment or pressure.
Can the tool help with STI conversations?
It can identify discomfort around the topic. The separate STI Conversation Planner provides more specific conversation starters.
Are my answers saved?
No. We do not store any data or send it to an external service.
Is this a psychological assessment?
No. It is an educational communication tool and does not diagnose anxiety, trauma or another mental-health condition.
